After the Revolution, George Washington delegated General "Frantic Anthony" Wayne as Commander of the Army and sent him to Erie in 1786 to manage the Indians. Wayne passed on ten years after the fact and was covered at the fortification. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania reproduced the strong house in 1880 as a tribute to General Wayne.

Historically significant area - The 1890's were Erie's prime. West Sixth Street is known as 'mogul's line'. It showcases the engineering and wealth of the Gay 90's. The 1891 Watson-Curtze Mansion housed just two families. Watson was president of a neighborhood paper organization. In 1923 the family sold the chateau to Curtze, another neighborhood business visionary. Upon his passing, the house was given as a historical center. The 24-room manor gloats 17 storerooms, 5 showers and 12 chimneys. Recolored glass windows, mortar friezes, and characteristic stone, marble and woodwork are unique. In 1959 the Historical Society changed over the neighboring carriage house into the Erie Planetarium.The Firefighter's Historical Museum is close-by on Chestnut St. The 1903 firehouse has two stories of flame gear and memorabilia - more than 1300 things. Dickson Tavern, is the most established working in Erie, and pre-dates the War of 1812. Commodore Perry constructed his armada close here and Lafayette ate at the Tavern. It was additionally a stop for the Underground Railroad. The Tavern sits at the intersection of French and Second Streets.
